weConnect v2.9.3

Features

New 3x3 whiteboard theming options

It is now possible to choose the color options for the new whiteboard implementation. Together with the color options for the backgrounds this allows to configure the boards closer to your institute standards.

We have also given the choice to set individual thicknesses for the colors, allowing you to mimic various sizes of chalk. These options are currently only available on the new whiteboard implementation, not the original whiteboard feature. Enable the new whiteboard on the feature tab in the administrator interface.

Seating Chart additional features

  • New workflow feature

The current seating chart is stored at the end of the session. It is stored with external identifier `meeting:-MEETING_ID-`. You can use this to assign the same seating position in a future session. To return the assigned seating chart : GET /api/v1/session/:sessionId

  • New API call

It is now possible to check if there is a seating chart created for a given session.

Check the way of creating a Seating Chart via API call here: API calls Seating Chart

Improvements

Screen sharing

  • Optimized screenshare quality when sharing from the browser, performance adjusted based on number of users during virtual classroom or hybrid session.

Whiteboard

  • Controls are placed on the bottom of the screen.
  • Easier way to clear the content from the whiteboard. Long press mechanism added.
  • By disabling the double tap action to make the whiteboard fullscreen improving the writing during collaborative writing.

User Experience

  • Deleted message can be returned back for a while after deletion.
  • The ability to edit a poll title is now more clearly indicated in the user interface for hosts.
  • All dates in localized date format. The locale we choose is that which the browser indicates based on the operating system settings of the user’s device.
  • Users receive a message to enable a camera by a request sent by Operator.
  • Added the title of admin page so that it is much easier to find and navigate to the correct tab.

Webhook integration

Webhooks are a great way to integrate real-time data of the system, sessions and users into your analytics or dashboards. We are constantly incorporating your feedback and new use cases.

  • Include more data in session webhook so less API calls are needed to extract information about sessions. Data can be used to create correct session analytics.
  • Poll vote webhook enhancement that includes full answers and username of the voter.
  • Link to Avatar picture is enabled. It is useful for showing avatar of users in created dashboards, create chat ticker system in virtual classroom.

Device upgrades and management

When trying to pair devices during the install process, but without any device selected when doing so, you will now get a warning message instead of silently failing.

An early warning indicator that a room might not be fully operational is when hardware attached to the display nodes has been changed.  We now allow to filter and sort devices in the administrator interface across the institute or campus where we detect changed hardware configurations.  This will help to quickly identify and hardware configuration or third-party device issues before the start of a session.

Bug Fixes

iPad support

  • Adjusting microphone/camera within a session is disabled on iPad because of performance concerns in iOS.

Whiteboard

  • The whiteboard thumbnail in the view of the operator now follows the correct theming.
  • The whiteboard source is no longer shown in operator view if the whiteboard feature is toggled off.

Devices

  • Display nodes are more resilient towards network request failures in the bootstrap phase of the system.
  • Fix regression where update on NCN devices stopped working

User Interface

  • The username of a weConnect manager role will update properly in the list of managers if the username is changed
  • Poll overlay on the display wall now takes the participant viewport width into account.
  • In some scenarios a device showing the participant UI would also appear as a student on the wall.
  • If you select 'host' role in the wizard, you will now be asked if you are local/remote in virtual use cases
  • Seating charts can now contain users invited through user group (previously only direct invites)
  • Undo action on chat message removal will now not overwrite the timestamp of the message. It will be inserted in its original order in the timeline.
  • Session overview confidence monitors will contain host information again.
  • It is no longer possible to accidentally change a location level to a room.
  • Fix for participants who could not unmute when switching default devices while in or entering in a session.
  • Fixed regression where breakout mode didn't mute participants from other groups.
  • Prevent flickering between avatar and live view during breakout sessions.

Technical Information

Node firmware: v2.1.2-b52
The latest version of the Barco Pairing Tool:
v2.4.1

Prerequisites:

The 2.9.3 update requires the software on the display nodes to be upgraded to v2.1.2-b52. You can control when to allow this update by disabling the “block automatic devices updates” option in the “general” tab on the admin interface. Disabling this feature will allow devices to start upgrading, typically at night. You can test this new v2.1.2-b52 version prior to enabling a full roll-out by executing a force upgrade action on individual devices from the device tab in the admin interface, even if automatic updates are blocked.

Please check the software version of spare devices: if the software version is too old (before v1.8) they will potentially need to be flashed with more recent software. It is best to connect spare display nodes every 6 months to keep the software up to date using the automatic update mechanisms.
