The KVM over IT solution for your control room

Control rooms run on information. Barco CTRL gets the right information to the right place at the right time, on a single platform that covers the operator desk and the video wall alike. Unlike traditional KVM over IP solutions that simply bridge separate systems together, Barco CTRL is built as KVM over IT: it natively integrates with your IT infrastructure, speaking the same language as the network, identity systems, and monitoring tools you already use. The result is control room software that is part of your IT ecosystem, not an island next to it.

What drives Barco CTRL?

Three principles guide everything we build: simplicity, scalability, and security.

One canvas. One keyboard. Zero hassle.

Simplicity

Powerful systems do not need to be complicated. With Barco CTRL, operators interact with every source on a single workspace, using just one keyboard and one mouse. A guided setup wizard walks installers through configuration step by step, and devices are discovered automatically on the network. What used to take days now takes hours.

Because Barco CTRL is one platform for both the video wall and the operator desk, it extends the same intuitive look and feel across the entire control room and beyond, including breakout rooms and remote locations. There is also only one type of encoder, one type of decoder, and one server. That means simpler procurement, easier training, and faster troubleshooting for everyone involved.

Built to grow, whatever the future brings

Scalability

You cannot predict the future of your control room, but you can prepare for it. Barco CTRL starts as small as you need and grows simply by adding encoders and decoders, without complex reconfiguration or downtime. The same decoder can drive an operator desk today and become part of a video wall tomorrow.

Licensing follows the same logic: one source, one license, fully transferable as your needs change. And scaling does not stop at the walls of your control room. Through the Connected Control Room concept, developed with Extreme Networks, multiple Barco CTRL installations can be linked across locations and even continents, operating as one coherent system through federation.

Security by design, trusted by default

Security

In a control room, security cannot be an afterthought. Barco CTRL was built from the ground up following Security by Design and Zero Trust principles, with every connection authenticated and every communication channel encrypted using TLS 1.2 and 1.3.

The platform's security architecture rests on five pillars: identity management, communication protection, system protection, audit logging, and media protection. Combined with a dedicated in-house security team and a long-term security roadmap covering ISO 27001, NIS2, and the EU Cyber Resilience Act, Barco CTRL gives organizations the confidence to connect critical operations to the networks they need, without opening the door to the threats they cannot afford.

Additional control room applications

Next to the general command and control functionalities, upholding security is in many cases the main focus of government organizations. Depending on the case, this can be (cyber)security or decision-making. This sometimes requires a specific type of control room. Also for these applications Barco has dedicated solutions in its portfolio.
