At the Hengdian Dream Bund Film Experience Resort, visitors are transported through time, experiencing the charm Shanghai’s iconic waterfront district “Bund” as it looked like in the first half of the 20th century. This unique cultural theme park nearly 400,000 square meters of building space, recreates the grandeur of Shanghai from 1920s to 1940s. Barco provided UDX-4K22 and UDX-4K32 for the “Tram Ride” immersive tunnel and the “Havoc in Heaven” flying theater, offering a leading large-scale and immersive experience that captivates and attracts visitors.
Context
Hengdian Dream Bund Film Experience Resort recreates scenes rich in old Shanghai ambiance, immersing visitors in a fascinating blend of historical and modern adventures through the eras.
“Tram Ride” and “Havoc in Heaven” as the resort’s key attractions, feature innovative designs that combine full-size trams, dynamic tracks, and massive curved projection screens, offering an immersive journey through time. The project, designed and constructed in partnership with Holovis, sets a new standard in the cultural tourism industry, earning widespread acclaim and praise from visitors.
Challenge
In the immersive experience projects at Hengdian Dream Bund Film Experience Resort, the projectors must not only deliver detailed and vibrant images to meet the high visual standards of the theme park visitors but also ensure stability and reliability over long exhibition periods. These challenges required impeccable performances of the Barco projectors and set high expectations for the Barco team’s expertise in installation, calibration, and maintenance.
Solution
Barco projectors met the challenges of the Hengdian Dream Bund Film Experience Resort with high brightness, high contrast, and high color accuracy using 3-chip DLP technology. Barco successfully created the “Tram Ride” immersive tunnel and the “Havoc in Heaven” flying theater at Hengdian Dream Bund Film Experience Resort, using 18 UDX-4K22 and 4 UDX-4K32 to deliver a stunning visual experience for visitors.
The “Tram Ride” immersive tunnel, with its 50-meter-long, 10-meter-high curved screen, combined with the outstanding color performance of UDX-4K22, provided visitors with a highly realistic immersive experience. The “Havoc in Heaven” flying theater, featuring a 25-meter diameter giant dome screen and using 4 UDX-4K32, achieved lifelike visual effects. Paired with motion seats, it offered visitors a thrilling journey.
The UDX series’ lightweight design, modular structure and extensive ecosystem of supporting peripherals not only made the implementation, installation and calibration process more flexible and efficient, it also enables operations in extreme temperatures with ensured stable performances.
Results
These projects not only authentically recreated the old Shanghai scenery but also used innovative immersive techniques to make visitors feel as if they were stepping into historical scenes.
