We're so proud to celebrate a huge milestone today: our 90th birthday! From our humble beginnings in Belgium developing radios and TVs to becoming a global tech leader, it's been one incredible journey.
From radios to revolutionary tech
Our story began on 12 September 1934 in the quiet town of Poperinge, Belgium, where entrepreneur Lucien De Puydt and American engineer Frank Bowens set out to build radios – the most high-tech consumer product of the time. The radios were assembled from parts imported from the United States, which led to the company name ‘Barco’ – an acronym for Belgian American Radio Corporation.
From bringing entertainment into people’s homes through radios and TVs in our early days, we have evolved into a trusted visualization technology partner for professionals in the healthcare, enterprise, and entertainment markets.
