There could be several reasons for slow or delayed ClickShare App’s startup time. This may be due to antivirus software (e.g., Windows Defender), Windows Attack Surface Reduction Rules, or security settings limiting certificate verification.

1) Antivirus software, such as Windows Defender restricting access

Some security settings can cause issues when the ClickShare App from the Button tries to copy over to the PC or laptop. This can result in delays of about one minute. The app attempts to copy to the following location: %localappdata%\temp\{1F0A14E8-9535-4390-A660-EA5B9B5F32E3}.

To resolve this, create an exclusion for this path in Windows Defender.
OR
Alternatively, try temporarily disabling Windows Defender to see if it resolves the issue.

2) Windows Attack Surface Reduction Rules

Another factor that may be involved is if Windows Defender Attack Surface Reduction Rules are enabled. Please check these rules to see if they can impede the copying of files from the Button to the laptop hard drive. In particular the “Block untrusted and unsigned processes that run from USB” rule that is listed here.

3) Security settings limiting certificate verification towards GlobalSign

The ClickShare Button uses a GlobalSign certificate for enhanced security. When plugged into a Windows device, the device will validate the certificate with GlobalSign's servers. If security restrictions block access to these verification sites, it can affect the performance of the ClickShare Button.

For optimal performance, devices using the ClickShare Button should be allowed to verify certificates with the following GlobalSign servers:

  • crl.globalsign.com

  • ocsp.globalsign.com

  • prd.cdn.globalsign.com
