Making walls talk at the Genius Loci festival in Weimar

1 min read

What are your plans for the upcoming weekend? Ask video projection passionates and they won’t hesitate a second: the annual Genius Loci festival in the German city of Weimar is their place to be, from 15 to 17 August. Barco will be there too, as all the projection mappings during the event will be powered by our state-of-the-art HDF and HDX projectors.

Exhibition meets competition
In its third year now, Genius Loci Weimar provides a comprehensive overview of global video mapping trends: on historic facades in the city, works are displayed that present the ‘genius loci’ or spirit of the location using the latest media art techniques. In addition, Genius Loci Weimar is a competition. Until 15 April, artists from all over the world were invited to submit their works. An expert and a public jury (online voting) chose three winners, which will now present their artwork at the festival, this weekend.

Remember how we invited you to vote for your favorite projection mapping, in our newsroom of 13 May? ‘Limen’ from the Italian team mammasONica, ‘Klang3’ from Rüstungsschmie.de (Dresden) and ‘Moya Facade’ from Xenorama (Bremen) were the winners. Maybe they were your favorites too?

Barco support
Barco is proud to support a project like Genius Loci, which is considered a meeting-point for the international video mapping scene as well as for professionals from the fields of architecture, media art, design, performing arts and visual arts. So we’ll be there, over the next few days, to admire the projection mappings, take some customers on a guided tour and talk to the participants. Keep an eye on this news section for our wrap-up video!
