OGX Petróleo e Gás is one of Brazil’s real success stories. After just two years of exploration, the company already has a diversified, high-potential portfolio comprising 35 exploratory blocks in Brazil and Colombia. Cutting-edge technology is one of the company’s keys to success. Its virtual reality room features the biggest 3D visualization screen in the oil and gas industry. It is powered by Barco’s MegaCADWall system, consisting of Galaxy NH-12 and Galaxy NW-12 projectors.

Oil and gas exploration was once a painstaking, inefficient and time-consuming activity. Today, cutting-edge technology helps OGX reduce the need to drill numerous exploratory wells. To decide whether or not an offshore well is commercially viable, geologists, engineers and other decision-makers gather at the OGX virtual reality room in Rio de Janeiro to study an unparalleled amount of seismic data, which is gathered by seismic cables or ‘streamers’ and then converted into 3D graphics.

The virtual reality room features the biggest 3D visualization screen in the oil and gas industry. It is powered by Barco’s MegaCADWall system, based on three-chip DLP projection technology. The 3D image of the seabed is projected by two Galaxy NH-12 and four NW-12 projectors, arranged in a 3x2 set-up.

Asked why he chose Barco, Marcos do Amaral, Applied Technologies General Manager, said: “The sheer quality of the Barco portfolio makes them stand out from the competition.” Another reason for selecting Barco was the integrated XDS-1000 display management system ‒ a Windows-based software suite for projectors and large displays. With just a keyboard and mouse it offers simultaneous display of multiple sources, creating a stress-free environment where collaboration and decision-making becomes easy and efficient.
