Supporting Polish radiologists working from home with excellent quality and performance

Lublin, Poland - 2024

ProVega Teleradiologia, established 12 years ago by two visionary radiologists, has rapidly become a leader in the field of teleradiology in Poland. According to radiologist and ProVega CEO Dr Piotr Orzechowski, the management by doctors has been a major contributor to their success. The team’s specialties are very diverse, which means that there is a lot of cooperation between the radiologists, as well as with the patients’ referring doctors. Having qualitative equipment is vital for ProVega to book positive outcomes.

Key benefits:

  • High-quality equipment
  • Effortless calibration
  • Confident and comfortable reading at home

Context

With a network of 150 hospitals and clinics across Poland, ProVega Teleradiologia provides comprehensive diagnostic services, including CT exams, MRIs, X-rays, and mammography. The company prides itself on its proprietary teleradiology system, which has facilitated the description of over 624,000 exams in the past 12 months alone.

The team of 240 radiologists (equalling 10% of Poland’s entire radiologist workforce), all working from home, ensures timely and accurate diagnostic services, playing a critical role in patient care.

Challenge

As a teleradiology provider, ProVega faces unique challenges in maintaining high standards of diagnostic quality and efficiency. The dispersed nature of their workforce requires reliable and high-quality imaging equipment.

“As a radiologist, it is important that you work on appropriate equipment,” says Dr Orzechowski, ProVega CEO. “A monitor is a radiologist’s working tool, and it needs to be of high quality.”

Wherever they work, radiologists need monitors that deliver crisp images and ease of use, essential for precise diagnostics with minimal errors. Additionally, the comfort and ergonomic aspects of the equipment are crucial, given the long hours radiologists spend in front of their screen.

Solution

Initially, the founders of ProVega equipped their own workstations with Barco Coronis monitors and were impressed by their image quality and ergonomic features. Recognizing the significant impact these monitors had on their workflow and diagnostic accuracy, the company decided to expand their use of Barco products. They purchased an additional 64 Coronis monitors for their radiologists, with the ultimate goal of equipping all of them with top tier displays.

The Barco displays’ built-in calibration tools, high image quality, and SoftGlow ambient light feature were key factors in this decision. The Barco monitors' ability to maintain consistent and qualitative images without requiring additional calibration software or devices was particularly appreciated by the ProVega team.

“I’ve also found the SoftGlow backlight of the wall and desk in Barco Coronis monitors very useful – it significantly increases the comfort of work. Spending hours in front of the Barco monitor generally doesn’t cause any fatigue.”

Results

The seamless integration of the Barco monitors into ProVega’s existing systems, their reliability and comfort have strengthened the team’s operational efficiency. All monitors consistently perform at their best, which is crucial for maintaining high standards across a dispersed workforce.

“For us as a radiologists, the image quality and comfort of work are the most important,” adds Dr Orzechowski. “The ability to easily calibrate the monitor using the built-in calibrator is magnificent – we don’t need any additional software or devices which means we can calibrate the monitors quickly and without any problems.”

With the iGuard sensor and embedded QA included in the on-screen display menu of the Barco monitors, calibration and QA management can easily be accessed, even with iOS operating systems.

Conclusion

The partnership between ProVega Teleradiologia and Barco exemplifies how the right technology can enhance medical practice. By prioritizing quality and ergonomic design, Barco has enabled ProVega's radiologists to perform their tasks with high accuracy and comfort.

The ongoing expansion of Barco monitors within ProVega's network underscores the company's commitment to excellence in teleradiology. “The collaboration with Barco is incredibly important to me, both as a radiologist and CEO of the company,” Dr Orzechowski concludes. “I hope that soon I will be able to say that the entire team of Provega doctors works on Barco monitors.”

Quality, quality, and mainly quality. A tired radiologist means possible errors, and a good monitor significantly increases the quality of work and thus seriously decreases the risk of making mistakes.
