Wales’ largest health board chooses Barco technology for new operations center (installed by UVS)

Wales, Great Britain - 2024

The largest health board in Wales has chosen Barco technology for the heart of its new Security and Network Operations Center (SNOC), installed by Ultimate Visual Solutions (UVS). Operators at the SNOC use a Barco video wall and Barco CTRL platform to monitor the performance and security of the health board’s vast IT infrastructure.

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) has its headquarters in Gwynedd and covers the regions of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. It provides a range of primary, secondary, community and mental health services to a population of about 700,000 people.

Monitoring vast IT infrastructure

As part of its improvement program, the BCU Digital Data and Technology Team established a new SNOC, located with its ICT Service Desk. The SNOC collects, analyzes and displays data about the performance, security, and availability of the network and its devices. This helps its team of ICT professionals to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues, as well as prevent and respond to cyber security threats. The SNOC staff have responsibility for monitoring BCUHB’s vast infrastructure in support of its 19,500 employees, who work at more than 250 locations across North Wales.

Video wall and KVM over IP platform

The BCUHB control room system installed by Barco partner UVS comprises a 4x2 Barco video wall, and a Barco CTRL KVM over IP solution.

Martin Parry, the ICT Support & Delivery Manager at BCUHB, said: "Installation of the solution was completed over a compressed timeline with a minimum amount of fuss.  The Barco solution has transformed our SNOC, and has enabled us to enhance our service delivery and our proactive maintenance capabilities.”

“The BCU Digital Data and Technology Team aims to deliver exceptional IT support and solutions to enable healthcare professionals, patients and administrators, and to support the increasing demands and expectations of the organization,” UVS Managing Director Steve Murphy added. “We are pleased to have delivered this project which helps them achieve their goals.”
