Lights on, words gone: awe-inspiring projections for Bombay Bicycle Club

The demolishing of London’s famous Earls Court venue in December 2014 marked the end of an era. Indie rockers Bombay Bicycle Club were the final artists to grace the stage. For the occasion, the band created a mesmerizing audiovisual experience, with the help of XL Video. The leading provider of creative video solutions chose Barco’s cutting-edge projection technology.

Charismatic animations
The show, with a guest appearance from Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour, was the final performance of Bombay Bicycle Club’s ‘So Long, See You Tomorrow’ tour, which started in April 2014. For the final Earls Court show, XL Video worked with production designer Squib to specify and supply the video production and crew. Two extra bright and crisp Barco HDF-W26 projectors were used to project charismatic, hand-drawn animations created by Adam Young and Anna Ginsburg onto seven stretched fabric circles of varying sizes between 1.2 and 2.4 meters in diameter.

All Barco 26K
At Earls Court, two extra surfaces – a large, arched projection screen and a 50 square feet screen upstage – framed the whole stage area. Four more of XL Video’s Barco HDF-W26 projectors were added, doubled-up, to complete the picture. To top things off, two side screens, fed by a further two Barco 26K machines, were used to project live images from the stage and in the pit. Or: “how to pay homage to a legendary venue in style.”
